Campaign for Wool flocks to Harvey Nichols
Wool growers and enthusiasts are being invited to take part in the latest
initiative from the Campaign for Wool, as it heads to Harvey
Nichols.
This year's Wool Week might not be until October 15th but it seems someone let the yarn out of the bag on this one!
Knitters are being encouraged to donate their wool to help wrap London's Harvey Nicks store, as part of one of the biggest organised yarn-bombing's ever attempted.
Fibre2Fashion reports that wool growers can show off the quality of their wares as the participants, in partnership with The Woolmark Company, cover the historic Knightsbridge building in brightly coloured yarn.
Locals and visitors to London will be able to see wool weaving in and out of the windows around the landmark building, with a pair of giant knitting needles used to create a truly eye-catching display.
The association with Harvey Nichols is brilliant for the knitting community, especially as knitwear witnesses a rise in popularity, particularly in the world of high fashion.
All of the wool will be treated and dyed to ensure it remains waterproof and holds its shape - no matter what the British weather might throw at it!
The whole project is designed to shine a spotlight on wool as a natural resource. It also aims to showcase how this material is integral to fashion and supporting local economies.
Farmers from around the world are being called upon to donate wool, as the project aims to represent each of the globe's key wool-growing regions.
If you want to get involved with the project then you can send in fleece wool, which can then be transformed into combed wool top and treated to make it ready for this exciting project.
Alternatively, if you're a knit-bombing fan then don't forget to write it in your calendar and head on down to Harvey Nicks to see it for yourself!
